Coffee And Recumbents! Who Said It's Not A Sports Drink?
Since energy bars made it’s way on to this site, it's even more natural that coffee should be here. For many, that is the first order of business of a morning, to get the “java” going. That makes me think of the TV ad from years ago. I don’t remember the musical instrument used, but it was supposed to make you think of the sound made by the pot when coffee is percolating.
Anyway, it is still one of the best coffee ads ever in my opinion. You could almost smell the aroma as you listened to the sound. And can you say, “Good to the last drop!”, and not know what coffee they were talking about? You pretty much have to belong to that “boomer” generation to remember.
How coffee has changed over the last 10 or 15 years. Now there are all of those flavored coffees, decaf coffee, latte’, iced coffee drinks, super caffeine hits from the likes of Starbucks, and the list goes on.
We have discovered coffee comes in something besides a blue or red 1 pound can. You can get the most exotic coffees right through the mail, or delivered to your door by FEDEX. And flavors! Well now, can you imagine Blueberry coffee? Hazelnut and Mocha were a stretch for me. I’ll stick to the traditional thank you very much.
But for those who are always on the lookout for the new pizazz, different, exciting opportunities to tantalize your taste buds (or burn your tongue) take heart. Get ready to check out some really good coffee, some of which I can personally vouch for.
While some prefer to be sitting in a Coffeehouse, Coffee Bar or Restaurant, where they can find their favorite cup of "Joe," there are those who actually take some along for the ride! Now I haven't actually seen anyone pour this into their Camelbak, but I'll bet there will be a few who read this and nod their head. If not a Camelbak, then some other durable container to be sure.
I can't speak for others, but coffee is one thing I would only give up if my life was in danger, and I would have to think real hard about that. Only within the last year have I switched to decaf, and only because I didn't like what the caffieen did to my body.
On three seperate occassions for different reasons, I detoxed all the caffieen from my body, and the ackes and discomfort that followed each time made me acutely aware that coffee has some toxic properties. Keep in mind I do not drink other beverages that contain caffieen, so my only source is coffee. After the third time it seemed there had to be a better way.
At first a coffee made from soy beans seemed like it might work, but it wasn't long before the real taste of coffee was winning out. After about two months, I tried my first decaf. What a shock! It actually tasted like coffee!
Was it possible that decaf could actually taste like the coffee I had been drinking for years, swearing I would quit drinking coffee altogether before switching to decaf? Weelll let me tell you, surprised would hardly begin to describe my discovery. So these day's it's a Soy Latte, triple shot decaf, more wet than dry, my cup, Grande! And if I can get rid of that in less than an hour the refill is free! Oh the joy!
A side benefit seems to be the caffeine was the diuretic property of coffee, which affected my rides if I had a cup before riding. I hated having to plan rides based on finding Convenience Stores, big trees, orange groves or pre-selected hiding places. Now for me at least, that is one less issue to worry about.
For others, the caffeine gives them a shot of something that some claim "revs" them up and gives them that extra boost for a ride. I've never really put much stock in coffee being an energy drink, but you can find aficionados for just about anything.
So this section will be about coffee and other favorite drinks we all like before, after or during our rides. Since coffee is pretty much a universal drink, that seems like a good place to start. Information about where to get coffee, espresso, coffee beans, home espresso machines, home coffee bean roasters and , green coffee beans for the DIY buffs like me, will all be included.
Green Tea Health Benefits - A guide on different types of green tea (as well as choosing the right tea for your taste) while unleashing the secrets of this wonder drink.
Sure, other beverages will fall into sub categories just like building fairings is a sub category of the Homebuilders page. The idea is to start with a topic that will get you here, and then you can take a look at the other pages if you want. Since over half the World's population drinks coffee, seems like a good place to start. Coffee and Recumbents! Two of my favorite things in life.
